Moments before she exploded HMS Campbletown sits high on the southern caisson of the Normandie Dock. On striking the gate, the forward part of the ship has crumpled back to a point where the four tons of explosive she carries rests against the caisson wall. The positioning of this charge was perfect; it could not have been better set if it had been placed there by hand.
