Sutcliffe, A Mshl Sir Arthur Coningham (Commander RAF 2nd Tactical Air Force), Lt Gen Lewis Brereton (Commander Allied First Airborne Army) and AVM V.E. Groom. Gen Brereton's US XVIII Airborne Corps was to carry out the airborne crossing of the river; Coningham's 2nd Tactical Air Force provided the overhead cover to the operation.
