Medal of Honour Winner Biddle Melvin E (Pfc) Near Soy Belgium 517th PIR; 23 - 24 December 1944. A scout, he led his entire battalion in a 5 km penetration of strong german assault positions. Unassisted he killed 17 Germans with 19 shots from his rifle and knocked out three machine gun emplacements.
