Lt Gen Brian Horrocks

Lt Gen Brian Horrocks Commander XIII Corps. Horrocks was highly regarded by Montgomery and the new Eighth Army commander lost no time in promoting him to corps command. XIII Corps had previously been led by Lt Gen 'Strafer' Gott who had been Churchill's first choice to take over Eighth Army after Auchinlek, but Gott was killed in an air crach days before he could assume the command.
