Gen Giuseppe de Stefanis, commander Italian XX Corps. De Stefanis had commanded both the Trento and Ariete Divisions in North Africa before assuming corps command. During Rommels retreat in November 1942 he was assigned the command of Commandotruppe Mareth to prepare the defences of the Mareth Line ready for Panzerarmee Afrika to withdraw into. He later commanded LI Army Corps in Italy.
