The latest British tank to enter the fighting in north-west Europe was the comet, which arrived in small quanitites in late December 1944. Here a comet of 11th Armoured Division joins in the drive across Germany from out of the bridgehead. The tank was an improved version of the Cromwell armed with a shorter 17-pdr gun (77mm) and was probably the best British tank of the war but its late arrival in battle was a little too late.
