A mortar team from the 2nd Battalion Middlesex Regiment fires its 4.2inch (107mm) mortar in support of the British 3rd Division during the attack on Kervenheim.

The 4.2inch mortar wasone of the heavy infantry weapons provided by a machine gun battalion to each infantry divsion. The Middlesex Regiment supplied heavy machine-guns and mortars via the four of its battalions who were attached to the 3rd, 15th, 43rd, and 51st Infantry Divisions throughout the war in north west Europe.
